Droopys Odell is the 5/1 favourite to win the Coronation Cup at Romford ahead of the semi-finals tomorrow evening.

The 575-metre event still features Essex Vase and Henlow Cesarewitch winner Reel Trickyone, Hometown Honey and Aayamzamodel.

Seamus Cahill’s ante-post favourite with Betfair made it through his heat despite getting beaten at odds of 4/5. The two-year old was slow out of the boxes and had to come from off the pace to finish second. Lenson Pele led from start to finish of that race and scored by three and a half lengths.

It was a good evening for Champion Trainer Mark Wallis on Friday in the first round heats as all five of his entries made it successful through to the semi-final stage.

Aayamzamodel won his contest in impressive style by five lengths to reward Betfair backers. Running out of trap three, Wallis’ dog always led and scored at odds of 4/1. The surprise from that race was Paul Young’s Underground Paul, as he came home last despite going off as the favourite.

Reel Trickyone is also from the Wallis kennel. 2013 was a big year for the greyhound and connections will be hoping for more success during the campaign ahead. Running out of trap four, he was able to edge out Sidarian Jaguar by under a length at Romford. That was his third win on the spin after two earlier successes at Henlow.

Hometown Honey finished a head behind Shaneboy Allen on Friday which was enough to see him through. The 2/1 favourite was slow to the first bend but showed good acceleration in the closing stages to qualify.

In the semi-finals tomorrow, Droopys Odell and Reel Trickyone come up against each other in the hottest heat of the night. All three semi-finals are priced up by Betfair.
